Hello crafty friends! Design Team Member Monica is here today to share a trending paper craft. Magnetic bookmarks and cherry crafts are two big trends on Pinterest right now and she's combined both these trends into one adorable paper craft project.
This project requires just very basic knowledge of your Cricut or Silhouette software in order to complete. We'll share some basic instructions for prepping your files and then Monica will show you just how easy it is to make these DIY magnetic bookmarks.

How to create a magnetic bookmark in Cricut Design Space
- Choose your image from the Design Space Library. Monica used image #M505D23D8. Add it to your screen and size it appropriately, keeping in mind how large you would like your finished bookmark to be.
- Duplicate your design by right clicking on the image and choosing "Duplicate".
- Next, select just the top image. At the top of the screen choose "Flip Vertical". This flips one of the images (like a mirror image).
- Next, move the images a bit closer together so that the tops of the bows are almost touching. Leave a bit of room between them (about 1/4") as that is where the fold of your book mark will end up.
- Let's make sure these are perfectly lined up. Select both images and from the top menu choose "Align" and then "Center Horizontally".
- Next let's create the offset layer (or the shadow/outline layer) that becomes the base of the bookmark. With both images selected, choose "offset" from the top menu. Slide the bar to the right to make your offset the size you would like. You need to make sure that your offset is big enough so that the outline around both images is touching to become one larger outline. If your outline is too small, you will have two separate outline pieces. The goal is to have just one.
- Sometimes when you create an outline with the offset tool you will get pieces that are still cut out. To correct this, head to the bottom right of your screen and choose "Contour". From there you can decide which cut outs to keep and which to remove. Simply click on a cut out shape to remove it. Then it will not be cut out when you send to the cutter.
- Move your outline/offset layer away from your designs so you can work with it separately.
- From the left had menu, choose "Shapes" and then choose the simple line. This should automatically be a score line, but if it is not, choose "Operation" from the top menu and then "Score".
- Drag your score line over the top of the outline/offset and rotate and place it centered where you want the fold of your bookmark to be. To get it exactly centered, select the score line and the outline layer, then choose "Align" and then "Center".
- While both the outline layer and score line are still selected, click "Attach" from the bottom right menu.
- Now you are ready to cut out your pieces.
How to make a magnetic bookmark craft
- Now that you have your design ready, cut out your design layers from various colors of cardstock.
- Choose a sturdy cardstock to cut out your outline layer from since this will get handled a lot. We recommend our heavier cardstock lines like Bazzill Card Shoppe, My Colors Heavyweight or Sirio Ultra Black 104C.
- Begin assembling your designs onto the front and back of the bookmark. All of the detail layers really make this project pop.
- For smaller cardstock pieces choose an adhesive with a fine tip applicator like Bearly Art Glue or Art Glitter Glue.
- Cut out small strips of magnetic adhesive paper.
- Remove the adhesive on one of the cut out strips and press it onto your bookmark sticky side down. WITHOUT removing the adhesive on the matching magnetic strip, lay it onto the first magnetic strip with the magnets facing each other.
- Peel off the adhesive backing on the second magnet, then close the bookmark and it will be perfectly positioned. Press fold down at score line.

Now that you know how to make magnetic bookmark crafts, you can make these in a million designs! These make great DIY gifts and are especially fun as teacher appreciation gifts.
