DIY Wresting Ring Cake Topper For Wrestling Themed Party

Hi 12x12 Cardstock fans! Amanda from Lace Designs Studio here today. If you’ve followed me for a while, you’ll know that I used to enjoy baking, therefore, I’m always looking for the opportunity to create a 3D paper cake. There was no exception when it came to this wrestling cake. The idea originally came from designing a cake topper for a customer, but I really wanted to see how the final look was - so I made it myself :)

Supplies for Wrestling Ring Cake Topper:

To begin this project, you’ll need to upload the SVG into Cricut (or your preferred cutting machine). You can resize the file to be bigger or smaller, but keep in mind to do so while it is grouped, so everything fits perfectly together. After resizing, if you choose to, make sure to ungroup and attach each piece with its respective cut/score lines. The cut lines in the wrestling box are already “attached” so you won't need to, but you'll have to attach for the cake.

I began assembly on the wrestling ring first. To do this, I grabbed the white Bianco paper and glued it so the holes lined up on the top of the box layer with the holes. After gluing it in place, I folded along the scored lines and glued the tabs on the inside. I repeated this on the bottom of the box, and then inserted the top of the box into the bottom for a nice snug fit. You can also hold some snacks in here if you’d like, but it is a nice snug fit so make sure you carefully glue all the tabs together for the top and bottom of the box.

After, I  grabbed the four poles and folded along the scored lines. They’re easier to glue flat since they’re pretty thin. Once the first was glued, I repeated until all four were completed. Then, I inserted them into the holes on the wrestling ring box.

Next, we’ll begin the bottom layer of the cake. This portion is round and will assemble similar to a shaker strip or a Pringles strip, if you’re familiar with those. To start, you’ll grab the two panels and glue them together. I suggest giving a minute or two for one side to completely dry before doing the second side so it doesn’t shift.

Once you have the circular shape of the cake, we’ll begin folding the scored tabs inward and then adding glue onto the tabs so we can insert one of the circles (the slightly smaller one) inside. Then we will flip it over so that we may use one of the larger circles to cover the tabs.

Next, we’ll flip the cake back over and then fold the scored tabs inward before covering with the final circle.

Now, you can layer whatever text you’d like on the cake, and also have the option to use foamies if you’d like some dimension. Then you can glue the two tiers together.

My least favorite, but most important piece of our wrestling cake is adding the jewelry string to the wrestling ring. It’s only my least favorite because the material can feel quite slippery, lol. But the way I wrap it is by going around the pole a few times and tying a knot, held together with small clothing pins to keep it from slipping out. I wrap it around all four poles with the string remaining on the inside of the ring, and then using Beacon’s Silicone glue, I add some glue and let it dry. It takes a little longer to dry than Bearly Arts glue, but very worth the special touch and extra durability!

There you have it! A wrestling ring cake topper for a wrestling themed party.
