Using Specialty Cardstock In Layered Shadow Box Designs

Mon, Dec 23, 24 . Michelle Price

Happy Christmas Week! Design Team Member Pam here.

I’ve been wanting to find more ways to use the gorgeous specialty papers from 12x12 Cardstock Shop and came across this Christmas Wreath file by CutCutePaper on Etsy.

When I was pulling the supplies for the project I initially thought of gold vellum for the window lights, but instead I turned to the Gold Touch Mirri Sparkle paper. It’s very delicate and blended well with the airiness of the white vellum.

After I cut out the design it just seemed bland, so I cut out the snow on the roof layer using Bright White Glitter Luxe Cardstock by Encore - a very delicate glitter that has the look of freshly fallen snow on a cold, cold night.

Once I added that, I didn’t want to use the two top layers of vellum because it seemed to dull the look, so I just left them out. The Starry Night Glitter Luxe Cardstock by Encore added the finishing touch to the background – it looks just like a night sky full of stars.

Using specialty papers can make such a difference in your layered projects!

Next let's talk adhesives. I also alternated the adhesives I used. Under the gold layer and white glitter layer I used double sided foam tape to give a bit of lift. Under the vellum layer I used Mini Dots/Glue Dots. And to adhere the assembled wreath to the black layer I used Bearly Art Precision Craft Glue because I like the way it works with glitter.

Once it was assembled and framed I almost felt like I was a little girl again, standing by a country road in the middle of winter, watching the snow fall.
