How To Mix Metallics on a Handmade Card
Mae West said "Too much of a good thing can be wonderful" and I totally agree! Design Team Member Kate here today with a card that shows you that you CAN mix all different kinds of metallic cardstock (and have it look "wonderful").
As a cardmaker, I sometimes worry that my cards are "too much". I try to always create a balance in size, texture and shimmer. 12x12 Cardstock Shop has so many great specialty papers, including lots of metallic foil cardstock which I am especially drawn to.
Here's a few tips for mixing and matching metallics on a handmade card
1. Mix Shiny and Matte Foil Cardstock
2. Use a Neutral Background
I also find that it's best to ground all the shine with a neutral (like I did with the black background).
For this handmade graduation card I used the black foil for the light bulb wire and the red foil for the grad cap. The matte gold is for the bottom of the light bulb and a little piece of red glitter cardstock is for the tassel. The light bulb itself is cut from the Mirri Silver Sparkle cardstock.
Supplies:
- Mirri Foil Mirror cardstock in Black and Red
- Mirri Sparkle Glitter in Silver
- Glitter Silk Cardstock in Red Flash
- Matte Gold Foil board
- Sirio Ultra Black Cardstock
- Lightbulb die from MFT stamps
- Grad Cap die from Simon Says Stamp
