How to Make a Flower Garden Cake Topper
Hello everyone, this is Monica from Moni's Design and today I'm going to show you how I made this cute flower garden cake topper. Let's get started!
First, gather your supplies!
Flower Garden Cake Topper Supplies
- Cardstock in various colors - this is a great time to use scraps
- Cricut Machine
- Glue
- Wooden skewers
- Cricut Design Space Template HERE (Free with Cricut Access) *Note that you can use any flower SVG files or flower dies to make this project.
How to Make a Flower Garden Cake Topper
Load your cardstock into the Cricut machine and cut the flowers.
Hold the paper flower in the palm of your hand. Using the back of a marker, roll the rounded edge into the center of the flower, pushing into your palm to shape the interior of the flower. This gives them a more natural look.
Use a skewer to roll the edges of your flower petals.
Shape your flower centers by repeating the process above (rolling a marker end into the middle of the flower center).
Assemble the flowers by layering them and securing them with glue, then attach the flowers and leaves to the wooden skewers to create height and dimension. Each flower has a flower base, and a flower center, plus an additional flower base to use on the back of the skewer. The top of the skewer gets sandwiched in between the front and back flower. If you would like the cake to look good from the back too, create a second set of flower centers to glue onto the back flower as well.
Carefully place each flower into the top of the cake for a flower garden cake topper. Be sure and vary the height of your flowers so it looks like they are growing out of the cake.
I hope you love this as much as I did. Have fun making them with different patterns, textures and colors.
See you on the next blog!
