How to Color On Black Cardstock

Thu, Jul 29, 21 . Michelle Price

Our new Sirio Ultra Black Cardstock is so cool and looks fabulous when paired with bright colors. It makes all the other colors pop when you layer it! It's also great to emboss on, because white, silver and gold embossing powder look so crisp against the black background. But beyond the basics, you may be looking for other ideas on how to use black cardstock, or how to color on black cardstock.

Today I've got a fun stamping tutorial that's easy to accomplish and will give you some great ideas for how to use black cardstock.

Supplies:

To get started on this project use a stamp set that is mostly solid images rather than line stamps. Stamp your designs in embossing ink and then emboss them with white embossing powder.

You can stop there for an easy chalkboard look, but keep going to add a pop of color. Generally embossing dries really quickly, but just give it a moment to harden. By the time the embossed design is no longer warm, you should be good.
Use Copic markers or any other alcohol markers to color right on the white embossing. Mix and match colors and blend to get the desired effect.
Once you have created this pretty background, you can use diecut sentiments or stamped sentiments to finish it off. I used both!
This is a fun technique to try and it really is not hard to do. It's a great option coloring on black cardstock. I think it might be pretty with thicker line stamps too and can't wait to try it.
