How To Add Color to Vellum Flowers

Thu, Dec 17, 20 . Design Team

Want to make a statement with your holiday cards this year?  Use our Pearl Translucent Vellum (8 1/2 x 11 Glama Natural) instead of plain old cardstock and add color to the vellum to make your flowers pop off the page.

The results are beautiful, but the technique I used to make this card is actually not that hard.

To begin, emboss some outline floral images using Versamark ink and the embossing powder of your choice (here I used white and gold embossing powders).  Make sure to pre-heat your heat gun AND move it back and forth over the vellum to ensure that the vellum won't warp.

For this project I used a stamp set that had a coordinating die-cut set, but you can also just fussy cut out your designs with scissors once embossed.

Use your inks to color the BACK side of the vellum.  You can use blending brushes or sponge daubers to add color to the vellum.   Darker colors show up much nicer than lighter ones.  Allow the vellum to dry completely before die-cutting.

Arrange and layer your bouquet.  You can use foam adhesive to pop up your flowers if you cover with an embellishment (like a sequin, like I did in the center of the flowers)  Add the leaves with a tiny drop of Art Glitter glue (it dries clear!)

The Pearl Translucent Vellum is so stunning, and the hint of color peeking through adds a special touch!
