Fun fold cards, color inspiration and strips, oh my! Design Team Member Kate is back with an easy fun fold card idea that doubles as a gift card holder AND uses cardstock strips and a unique color combination.

How's that for a quadruple whammy?

HANDMADE CARDS COLOR INSPIRATION

Kate recently jumped on the Color Cube bandwagon to help her with color combos for her cardmaking. She loves to pull out her swatch books to help her decide which colors compliment the color cube inspiration. Encore Cardstock comes in 106 colors, so there's so much to choose from.

FUN FOLD BIRTHDAY CARD DIRECTIONS

Let's make this fun fold birthday card.

Score an 8 1/2 x 11 inch sheet of heavyweight cardstock in half both ways (on the 8 1/2 inch side score at 4 1/4 inches and on the 11 inch side score at 5 1/2 inches.) You are making an A2 card.

Trim off the upper right hand rectangle. The top left panel is the front of your card, the lower right hand panel is the 2nd flap and the lower left panel will become the gift card pocket. Kate found it helpful to trim off a small sliver along the edge of the flap panel to aid in the folding of the card. (see photo)

Decorate your 2 card panels as desired with strips.

CARDSTOCK STRIPS

Kate's love for strips cards is prolific! With this card, she used 3 different sized strips.

If you're not familiar with strip cards, check out this post Kate did all about using cardstock strips for cardmaking. Place adhesive on your card panel, then lay your strips down into the adhesive. You can do this in so many different ways.

On the front of the card, Kate butted the ends of the strips to create an almost brick pattern to her card front.

On the second flap she did solid strips all the way across edge to edge.

And on the inside panel she used thinner strips to create her own patterned paper to die cut her numbers from.

CREATE YOUR GIFT CARD HOLDER

Kate used a piece of cardstock measuring 5 x 2 inches to create a pocket for the gift card. Make sure to put adhesive on only 3 sides to form the pocket. This goes on the inside piece. Once this was adhered to the inside panel of the card, she attached her die cut numbers to the front.

The fun fold on this card works as follows. The first flap folds up (with the happy sentiment), then the next flap folds out to the right (with the birthday sentiment) and the inside holds the pocket and die cut numbers.
