Cardmaking Tips For Those Who Hate To Color

Thu, Jun 20, 24 . Michelle Price

Do you hate to color?  It's a hard thing to admit in our industry...but I really do not care for it.  I've bought all the things (alcohol markers, blenders, gel pens) but I hardly use them.  Well, here's an idea for some quick "coloring" without all the aggravation.

For this technique you basically start with a colored cardstock, and then use the coloring medium of your choice to add small accents. This gives the effect of stamped and colored designs without all the work of coloring.

Start by stamping your design on colored cardstock. Bazzill Smoothies is the perfect cardstock for this faux coloring technique. It stamps and embosses well and can even stand up to a bit of water.

I stamped my dinosaurs and heat embossed with some clear embossing powder (this helps if you are using watercolors), then I used various methods to add color.

I used some alcohol markers (on the yellow dinos) to accent their scales and spots.

On the turquoise and purple dinos, I opted for some metallic watercolor paint.

The blue dinos are accented with a white gel pen.

This technique makes "coloring" painless, since the color is already there.
